Italy issued a 10 Euro face value silver commemorative coin for the International Year of Astronomy 2009.

The obverse shows the famous "double" telescope of Galileo Galilei. The telescopes halves the face of the coin. Below them the starry sky is visible, some of the constellations are easy to identify: Cygnus, Draco, Leo, Bootes, just to mention some. Above them is the face value: 10 EURO. On the upper half an astrolabe was drawn. Legend is: "ANNO INTERNAZIONALE ASTRONOMIA 2009", i. e. "International Year of Astronomy 2009".

The reverse shows the allegoric face of Italy. Legend above is: "REPUBLICA ITALIANA".
