China issued a commemorative medal in 2011 to remember the meteorite shower 35 year earlier in 1976.

From the homepage of the Jilin Meteorite Museum: "At 15:02:36 on March 8, 1976, a rare meteorite shower fell in Yongji County, north suburb of Jilin City, Jilin Province, which is world well-known Jilin Meteorite Shower. It is the world’s largest meteorite shower with the largest number (138 specimens), the heaviest weight (more than 2,700 kg in total), and the widest scope (500 square kilometers). Of them, the No. 1 meteorite is the largest one known by human with a weight of 1,770 kg."

On 8 March, 2011, on the 35th anniversary, China issued a medal to keep the memory of this Jilin meteorite shower. A piece of the meteorite is attached to the medal which was minted only in 1000 pieces.

The obverse of this 50 mm diameter silver plated copper-nickel medal shows a silent rural scene in the night above it brilliant fireballs are visible. On the ground a small piece of meteorite is attached. Legend is in Chinese.

The reverse show China's meteorite expert Mr.Zhang Baolin, staff member of Beijing Planetarium. He is studying meteorite pieces. The six figures are old Chinese tales, HouYi shoots Sun, Chang'e fly to the moon, birds in the sun(sunspot), etc. Mr.Zhang Baolin said that some tales are related to meteorite shower.
