Cook Islands issued a beautiful  silver 5 dollars coin holding a Lunar meteorite for celebrating the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11.

In 2009 not only the International Year of Astronomy was celebrated, but the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11, the spacecraft that landed on the Moon. This was the first time that a man stepped to another celestial body in history. The obverse of this silver medal shows the Earth on the right and in the background the full Moon. A small lunar meteorite piece is attached to the Moon. Legend is: "40TH ANNIVERSARY OF APOLLO 11", and dates 1969-2009.

The reverse follows the usual design of Cook Islands coins, the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, and the face value of the coin: "5 DOLLARS". The coin has a 38.61 mm diameter, 25 gram weight. It was made of 925 fine silver with proof technique and was minted in 100000 pcs., according to its certificate.
